Megan was a High School sweetheart of Nick Vera, who comes to help Megan out with a break-in at the Easton's house. As Nick goes the extra mile to investigate the break-in for a friend, he finds out a lot more is broken and lost than just the the door and jewelry.

Karl Makinen recurs as Detective Furst on the hit ABC series Desperate Housewives. Susan Mayer's (Teri Hatcher) daughter is strangled, and nearly dies. Detective Furst, (Karl Makinen) and his partner Detective Murphy are assigned the case, but Susan (Teri Hatcher) is not convinced that the detectives are taking the case seriously. Detective Lapera (Kathy Najimy) offers to help with the case and Susan accepts, only to find out later that Susan and Detective Lapera have a checkered past. When Susan figures out who Detective Lapera is, she turns to Detective Furst (Karl Makinen) and Detective Murphy again to figure out who on Wisteria Lane may have had a motive to strangle Susan's daughter.

Karl Makinen guest stars on LIE TO ME episode - "Teachers and Pupils" as officer Nick Hardy. Nick knows some information that could put away some of his fellow cops for a long time. While he is conflicted about turning in his brothers, he gets a call to investigate a domestic disturbance in the projects of Washington DC and gets shot up in a bad way. Now a Quadrapaliegic and on life support his wife and kid stand vigil waiting for the inevitable. Dr. Lightman (Tim Roth) figures out he can communicate with Nick through slight muscle moments in his dilated pupils, only to discover he was shot by his own men in Blue (dirty cops).

Karl Makinen guest stars on Monk in its final season, as Xavier Danko, in "Monk Goes To Group Therapy". When Monk's insurance will no longer cover one-on-one therapy, he reluctantly attends group therapy and one-by-one the patients are being killed off. Monk investigates and finds that a former patient who is no longer with the group, Xavier Danko, (Karl Makinen) is the one killing off the patients because they are the only people who could connect him to a woman he recently killed.

Mr Whitner (Karl) with his lawyer in tow, are planning to sue Sgt Gabriel and the LAPD and take vigil at the hospital with a closed door policy. Brenda Leigh Johnson (Kyra Sedgwick) tries to extract the real story from the son of Mr Whitner and true to Brenda Leigh Johnson's slick investigative tactics she gets to the real story about the shooting.

Karl Makinen just finished filming RIVER OF GOLD in Cananea Mexico. A Spanish language film that follows the life of an American Indian tribe, a Mexican family and an American Calvary, shortly after the Mexican American War in 1850. Karl plays Peter Hanlon, a scout for American Calvary leader Captain Tagart, (Kenny Johnston) whose torched-earth policy challenges the integrity and morale of his team. They embark on a journey clearing Mexicans from what is to become Texas and along the way make extra money killing and scalping Apache Indians for the Mexican Government. A beautifully shot film that captures the beauty of the west in Cananea, Mexico where some of the real events took place.
